The disturbing and grotesquely beautiful ceramic sculptures by Sarah Louise Davey leave the viewer with mixed feelings. The work of the young artist, who will soon graduate from University of Florida, is of a fascinating quality and points to a promising career in international galleries. Her art can be found on her collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/14 in 2019.
Davey questions her own experiences within social norms. In her sculptural objects and installations, she illustrates the psychological range of human beings, sometimes in hybrid unity with wild animals. In a mixture of capricious beauty and macabre exaggeration, she creates creatures overwhelmed by hope and beaten with twinges of nostalgia. At the heart of these works is the eternal push and pull of the spirit.
