Splash and Burn is an award-winning, artist-led initiative, using creativity to
spark a global conversation on conflicts around palm oil. Artists join forces to
create single interventions, short films and actions – as seen in the presented
videos REWILD and Save our Souls.
Artistic projects explore the impacts on forests, communities and the dwindling
wildlife of South East Asia. They tackle issues such as the transboundary haze,
deforestation and the displacement of humans and wildlife. Their murals and
sculptures are found throughout Sumatra’s vast natural landscape. By raising
awareness about the adverse effects of the palm oil industry, they embody
the potential for art as activism and mobilizing social change.
Splash and Burn is an ongoing independent initiative curated by Ernest
Zacharevic and coordinated by Charlotte Pyatt. The campaign collaborates
with a network of local and international NGOs. Participating artists to date
include Alexandre Farto aka Vhils, Mark Jenkins, Axel Void, Pixel Pancho,
Isaac Cordal, Strøk, Gabriel Pitcher, Bibichun and Escif.
