Biography / Stephanie Buer

Stephanie Buer is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her appreciation of urban desolation comes from over a decade of observing decay in the urban landscape in Detroit, Michigan. Her photo-like detailed works in both oil and charcoal mostly show spaces that people left behind. Stephanie’s works are featured in the URBAN NATION 2018 exhibition, ‘UN-DERSTAND The Power of Art as a Social Architect’.

Stephanie Buer’s paintings and drawings show the juxtaposition of urban decay caused by absence of people and growth caused by nature taking back its own space. Buer graduated from BFA The College of Creative Studies Detroit, Michigan, in 2006 and displayed her work since 2010 in various group and solo shows in the United States as well as in Paris, France, or Tokyo. The derelict scenes mixed with the idyllic view challenges the audience to question their perceptions of beauty, whilst at the same time The texture and depth that is distinguishes her art offers them to experience these spaces on a personal perspective, just as she does when capturing those moment in person herself.
