Biography / ZASD

Thomas Bratzke aka ZASD (*1977), a Berlin-based actor of writing and metagraffiti, has been breaking down writing into its ingredients since the late 1990s and developing his artistic work from there. His plastic “3D Tags”, which have been implemented autonomously in the city since the beginning of the 2000s, as well as the project “City of Names”, which he initiated and realized with his then partner AKIM together with the Berlin collective “jazzstylecorner” in Gothenburg and Berlin, inspired the subsequent Berlin generation of writing.

ZASD focused on the performativity of writing and developed other works based on this, such as “Arrow Pieces”, arrows shot at insulated facades, which were autonomously integrated into the urban landscape in the public spaces of Berlin and Cologne, and the performance project “Ritsche,Zast Marien” (RZM). Since 2013 he has been working on the further development of three-dimensional lettering as part of the project “Half Half Paintings” in collaboration with Keez Duyves, PIPS:lab (NL). Since 2019 he is part of the “Hybrid Sculptors”.
