Hybrid Sculptors „with or without you (in Berlin)“
- July 15, 2020
There is a new exhibit in the URBAN NATION museum: The artist collective Hybrid Sculptors created an interactive video work called “with or without you (in Berlin)”, which gives visitors the opportunity to become part of their performance art.
Already in February this year, Hybrid Sculptors, the artist collective around Keez Duyves and Thomas Bratzke aka Zasd, impressed numerous visitors with their live performance “it is nothing without you” in the Project Space of URBAN NATION. Hybrid Sculptors has now expanded their artistic repertoire especially for the URBAN NATION museum with an interactive element, where visitors not only become part of the Hybrid Sculptors performance, but can also shape the virtual sculptures themselves.
The video work “with or without you (in Berlin)” shows interdisciplinary performances that were created in the park at Gleisdreieck and at the residential building “Pallasseum” in Berlin-Schöneberg. With the help of a self-developed device, Thomas Bratzke and Keez Duyves draw immaterial, virtual forms into the space at these locations. These forms are captured by Mischa Leinkauf with his camera and explored from different perspectives. Kadir “Amigo” Memiş adds the aspect of movement to virtual painting: equipped with a motion capture system, he makes the sculptures drawn in space “dance” through his own body movements. The sculptures are musically enriched by the jazzy trumpet played by Richard Koch and the bass and sound design by Michael Haves.
The audience is now invited to collaborate with the artists and fill the “empty” surfaces of the virtual sculptures themselves. While the video is running, a hand scanner can be used to select colors and textures from provided photos. The photos show details of the urban landscape of the Schöneberg neighbourhood around the URBAN NATION museum. The resulting videos are individual for each participant. Thus the artwork changes with each new interaction.
That sounds exciting? Then visit the URBAN NATION museum and experience it. The museum is currently open Tuesdays to Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm. The admission is free as always.
