New One Wall by Fanakapan – Believe in dog

Last week an old friend and companion of the URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART followed the invitation of curator Yasha Young to enrich Berlin’s cityscape with a new ONE WALL: Fanakapan. His latest work of art now adorns a wall in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.

The London-based street art artist is a true “repeater”. In addition to various collaborations with the URBAN NATION, such as Live At The Museum last year, a Community Wall and the collaboration at the Lollapalooza Festival 2017, we can now look forward to a new artwork by Fanakapan. In Schwedter Strasse 29, he left a truly impressive piece on a large house wall, which is more than just a new mural. It is a charming and funny message to the neighbourhood, which takes a critical look at our dealings with the social media.

In his famous style Fanakapan has once again managed to trick the human eye. His most recent work features a 3-D helium balloon reflecting Snoopy, a symbol of the artist’s deep love for dogs, as well as the artist and his surroundings. As always, Fakanapan is not directly recognizable. Here a smartphone covers his face, taking a picture of the heart-shaped balloon in which Snoopy is reflected. With this pop-cultural motif, which already unites both two and three dimensions, he opens up another meta-level that certainly inspires reflection. Who is actually looking at whom? How much does the perspective through the photo lens of a telephone influence the real image of the things we encounter every day, like in this case the street or the city we live in? With this new ONE WALL, Fanakapan holds up a mirror to its viewers.

The new ONE WALL by Fanakapan can be seen at Schwedter Straße 29, Berlin Prenzlauer Berg.
