Kadir Amigo Memis is a dancer based in Berlin who creates choreographies and co-founded the urban dance community Dance Unity. In 1993, he founded the B-Boy Crew ‘Flying Steps’ with his friend Vartan Bassil and in 1994 and 2000, the Flying Steps won the world championship title in the biggest international breakdance battle in Germany. His works are featured as a part of the opening of URBAN NATION Museum in 2017.
Kadir Amigo Memis was born in 1974 in Bilecik, Turkey, and came to Berlin at the age of 10. His parents were the first generation of Turkish migrant workers in Germany. Memis describes himself as an ‘Urban Nomad’, a collector, inspired by gestures, lines, moves, birds, smells, colours, sounds and lights of the cities and his environment“. Influences that he reproduces in his choreographies – dance as calligraphy. He is also the co-founder of the communication platform Dance Unity, works as a choreographer for a theatre in Berlin and starred in the documentation ‘Anadolu Break’ in 2014.
